Dr. Canning is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology with a special interest in envenomations and wilderness medicine. After graduating from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completing residency in Emergency Medicine at Christiana Care in Delaware, he graduated fellowship in Medical Toxicology at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in 2011.
Dr. Canning is an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at University of Arizona-Phoenix and is an attending physician in the department of Medical Toxicology at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix teaching fellows, residents and students on a busy inpatient service in addition to educating community EMS and first responders. He continues to practice Emergency Medicine in the Phoenix area and can frequently be found outdoors camping or on the local trails training for long distance running races.
